Glossary
The words, in one sentence each.
What the words around in-app AI assistants and generative UI mean, in one sentence each, and how Rendel uses them.
- Generative UI
- An interface built at the moment of the request: instead of a text reply, the answer is assembled from interface components filled with the user's own data. In Rendel, the components are your app's, drawn natively. More
- In-app AI assistant
- An assistant inside a product's own app or website, as opposed to a support chatbot beside it. It answers with the app's screens and can run the app's actions for the signed-in user.
- Action
- Something the assistant may do in your app: open a screen, call one of your API endpoints, change data. Each action has a risk level; reads run at once, changes wait for the user's confirmation. More
- Confirmation card
- The card a user taps to approve a change before it happens. In Rendel it is built by the server from your action's template and validated parameters, never written by the model.
- Tool calling (function calling)
- A language model's ability to ask for a function to be run with structured arguments. An in-app assistant uses it to propose actions; the app or its server decides whether they run.
- Component catalog
- The set of interface components an assistant may answer with. Rendel's catalog has 36, from charts and tables to maps, forms and passes. More
- Native components
- Components drawn by the platform's own toolkit (Flutter widgets, the page's own DOM), not a web view or an image of one.
- Signed-in user's token
- The credential an action runs with, so your API applies its own permissions to the assistant exactly as it does to the user. More
- PII masking
- Replacing personal data in what a user types before it reaches a model. In Rendel, emails and card numbers that users type are masked before the model sees them.
- Data residency
- Where data is stored and processed. Rendel stores conversations in Frankfurt (EU); after an assessment, a Turkey region or your own servers, by separate enterprise agreement.
- KVKK
- Türkiye's personal data protection law (Kişisel Verilerin Korunması Kanunu), the counterpart of the GDPR for companies serving users in Türkiye.
- AI setup
- Setting Rendel up with the coding agent your team already uses: it adds the SDK to your app and fills in the Rendel console from your code. Every setting can also be entered by hand. More
- Usage credit
- The usage a Rendel plan includes each month, shown in dollars. A short answer uses a little; a long one with actions uses more. More
- Monthly active users (MAU)
- People who used the app in a month. Most of an app's users never open its assistant, which is why the cost of an assistant depends on the share that do.
- Answer engine
- An AI system that answers a question directly, such as ChatGPT search, Perplexity or Google's AI Overviews, often citing the pages it read.
- Chatbot widget
- A chat window added to a site or app, usually for support. It replies in text and points users to the right screen rather than doing the task.
