In short
You pay a fixed plan price that includes a set number of messages a month. A message is one answer Rendel writes, and what your users type is free. Rendel's plans are Pilot (free, 400 messages), Starter at $199 a month (4,000), Growth at $799 (20,000) and Scale at $1,500 (50,000). When the messages run out, new conversations pause unless you have turned on extra messages, so the bill is never a surprise.

You pay for answers, not for questions
The unit is the answer. Someone opens the assistant, asks where their order is, asks a follow-up and taps to confirm a return: that is three answers, so three messages. Their typing costs nothing.
Every answer has the same price on a plan, whether it shows a page of your app or runs one of your actions. Reading an answer aloud counts apart, at what the voice costs, usually half a message. That is what makes a month easy to forecast: count the answers, and you know the bill.
One exception keeps the price honest for both sides. An answer that does unusually heavy work, like reading very long documents, counts as 2 or more: one for each started $0.02 of model cost behind it. Plan & usage shows how many answers counted more than one.
What the plans include
Each plan includes a number of messages a month. Your bill is the plan price; an extra message, once you turn them on, costs less on each plan up.
| Plan | A month | Messages included | Extra message | Apps and users |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pilot | Free | 400 | Stops at 400 | 1 app, 500 users |
| Starter | $199 | 4,000 | $0.05 | 1 app, 2,500 users |
| Growth | $799 | 20,000 | $0.04 | 3 apps, 25,000 users |
| Scale | $1,500 | 50,000 | $0.03 | 10 apps, no user limit |
What is not billed
Answers on a test key are free, so building the thing, demoing it internally and running it through QA costs nothing. You are billed once a live key is serving real customers.
Passing the user limit switches nothing off. Nobody is cut off mid-sentence because the app had a good month; we ask about the plan after two months over it.
Every app in an organization shares one allowance, so a quiet app does not strand messages a busy one needs.
When the messages run out
Alerts arrive at 80% and 100% of the month's messages. Then open threads finish normally and new conversations pause: Rendel says it cannot answer right now rather than failing in the middle of someone's return. Nothing is added to your bill.
If you would rather keep answering, turn on extra messages and set a monthly limit. They cost your plan's price per message and stop at your limit. Pilot cannot add messages; it upgrades instead.
Paying a year up front is one month free on every plan.
Questions
Only by its answers. Each answer is one message at the same price, so a conversation with five answers is five messages, however long they are. Only an answer that reads very long documents counts as more than one.
No. Answers on a test key are not billed, and a live key is refused until Go live. Pilot is free, so a team can build and demo without a card.
Nothing switches off. The limit counts users with the SDK build installed, from their first open; we ask about moving plan after two months over it.
They share one allowance across the organization, which is usually what a team wants. The per-app view in the console shows where it went.
